This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Define and advance Versapay’s enterprise data strategy, ensuring alignment of the data roadmap with product, AI, and commercial objectives.
• Lead the architectural integration of transactional, operational, and analytical data layers into a cohesive, bi-directional operational backbone.
• Own a multi-year roadmap for data maturity encompassing architecture, semantics, governance, and accessibility.
• Establish canonical hierarchies, enterprise ontologies, and shared metric catalogs.
• Implement data governance through automated classification, RBAC enforcement, platform SLAs, and certified data objects.
• Formalize the Enterprise Data Catalogue and maintain a dashboard for executive data health.
• Enforce data procurement reviews and manage the Enterprise Data Asset Registry.
• Prepare data infrastructure for ML pipelines, LLM serving layers, and agentic serving tiers.
• Develop schema contracts and semantic modeling standards to ensure safe agent deployment.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering on reverse data flow, predictive model productization, and real-time data serving.
• Govern sensitive data and external data products to ensure quality, lineage, privacy, and compliance.
• Transform data operations into a design-first, product-oriented organization with governed self-service access.
• Operationalize external data products and work with Commercial on data product strategy and recurring revenue.
• Lead and expand the Data Platform Team in collaboration with Embedded Analytics, Risk, and Compliance.
• Connect Product, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, and Legal/Compliance around a trusted data foundation.
• Represent the data function at the executive level, partnering with the CTO and contributing to the AI and product roadmap.
• Over 10 years of experience in data leadership, with at least 5 years at the Director level managing enterprise data strategy, architecture, or governance.
• Proven track record of modernizing and unifying complex, multi-source data environments at scale, preferably in a SaaS, fintech, or payments context.
• Extensive expertise in the modern data stack: cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred), lakehouse architectures, ETL frameworks, and semantic/canonical modeling.
• Strong evidence of applying AI and ML infrastructure, including how data governance, observability, and semantic standards support safe, scalable AI deployment.
• Proven capability to build and lead high-performing technical teams while effectively collaborating across Product, Engineering, and Commercial functions.
• Experience in governing data for commercial use: external data products, consent frameworks, lineage standards, and privacy compliance.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex data and architectural concepts for executive audiences and fostering alignment across functions.
• Experience in managing data warehouse costs and forecasting expenses.
• Background in hiring and managing talent across the entire data spectrum—from BI and Analytics to Data Engineering and CI/CD of data platforms.
• Preferred experience with agentic AI architecture, MCP, or LLM serving layers and the data requirements associated with them.
• Familiarity with AR/AP automation, payments, or working capital platforms and the data models they produce is a plus.
• Proven history of commercializing data as a product, including packaging data assets, building external APIs, or creating data-sharing programs with partners.
• Experience managing data maturity transformations through structured roadmaps, measurable milestones, and executive visibility is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with AWS-native data infrastructure (Glue, SageMaker, Bedrock) alongside Snowflake and modern BI tools is preferred.
• A background in a PE-backed, high-growth SaaS environment is preferred.
