Senior Director, AI Engineering – Agentic AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to create AI-driven products that transform the work experience for our associates and enhance customer interactions with Capital One.

• Manage the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability, among others.

• Make informed build-vs-buy decisions across a wide array of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and more.

• Develop and implement cutting-edge LLM optimization methods to enhance the performance—scalability, cost, latency, and throughput—of large-scale production AI systems.

• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term strategy for foundational AI systems at Capital One.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in developing or leading AI and ML algorithms or technologies; or a Master’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience.

• A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.

• At least 7 years of experience in managing and leading an engineering team (preferred).

• 8 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud) (preferred).

• Proven experience in developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies (e.g., LLM Inference, Similarity Search and VectorDBs, Guardrails, Memory) (preferred).

• A strong passion for keeping up with the latest AI research and systems, applying innovative techniques judiciously in production (preferred).

• Exceptional communication and presentation abilities, capable of conveying complex AI concepts to peers effectively (preferred).
