Senior Applied AI Engineer

📋 Description

• Facilitate discovery sessions with both business and technical stakeholders to gain insights into workflows, supported decisions, and expected outcomes.

• Establish measurable success criteria, which include accuracy benchmarks, human review thresholds, acceptance criteria, and definitions for failure.

• Propose non-AI alternatives when modifications to rules, processes, or enhancements to interfaces are more suitable.

• Choose suitable AI frameworks such as extraction, classification, summarization, retrieval, or agentic workflows.

• Make and justify architectural choices while considering factors like quality, cost, latency, security, and authorization.

• Develop comprehensive AI-enabled capabilities, encompassing prompt and retrieval design, structured outputs, tools, APIs, data management, error states, and user interfaces.

• Create evaluation sets using real data and refine them based on outcomes.

• Assess deployment readiness.

• Operationalize capabilities within client environments, ensuring governance, logging, and traceability.

• Generate documentation detailing solution behavior, limitations, validation, and handling of incorrect results.

• Oversee and enhance quality, cost, latency, and drift after launch.

• Shape client roadmaps and showcase possibilities through functional proofs.

• Guide engineers who are new to AI and review their contributions.

• Contribute reusable patterns to the team.

• Transition between client delivery, internal product development, rapid proofs of concept, and internal enablement.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in building and deploying production software.

• A minimum of 2 years of practical experience in developing applications that incorporate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, tool utilization, and agent patterns.

• Proven experience in assessing AI system quality, including creating test sets, defining metrics, and making deployment choices based on evidence.

• Strong programming skills in a general-purpose language such as Python, TypeScript, or SQL.

• Experience in integrating APIs and managing imperfect data across the entire application.

• Demonstrated ability to lead discussions on requirements with non-technical stakeholders and translate these into a technical framework.

• Sound judgment regarding trade-offs among accuracy, cost, latency, and complexity.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Capability to operate with minimal guidance in ambiguous situations.

• A history of enhancing the skills of other engineers.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary federal government background investigation, suitability determination, or security clearance for assigned client engagements.

• Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.

• Preferred: Experience with low-code or application platforms like Appian, OutSystems, Mendix, Microsoft Power Platform, ServiceNow, or Salesforce.

• Preferred: Experience in public sector or regulated-industry project delivery.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AWS Bedrock or Azure OpenAI.

• Preferred: Knowledge of LLM evaluation or observability tools.

• Preferred: Prior experience in consulting, solutions engineering, professional services, or embedded client interactions.
