Lead AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for the Digital Worker platform and the AI functionalities integrated into Trio's products.

• Set design principles, engineering patterns, and architectural standards for AI systems.

• Lead technical design reviews and make informed tradeoff decisions regarding quality, latency, cost, and operational complexity.

• Assess new AI technologies for potential integration.

• Design and construct production systems utilizing LLMs, retrieval architectures, agentic workflows, and tool utilization.

• Develop reusable frameworks for agent orchestration, tool integration, workflow execution, and memory management.

• Tackle the most challenging technical problems faced by the team in a hands-on manner.

• Establish standards for assessing AI quality, including accuracy, groundedness, safety, latency, and business impact.

• Create and enhance evaluation frameworks to identify regressions and hallucinations.

• Define standards for monitoring, tracing, and logging in production AI systems.

• Set reliability and performance goals while acting as a senior point of contact for critical AI production issues.

• Mentor the AI Engineering team and lead code and design reviews.

• Collaborate with Product, Platform, Data, Security, and executive stakeholders.

• Convert business objectives into technical strategies and translate technical tradeoffs into business language.

• Expand the Digital Worker framework to accommodate new workflows.

• Enhance AI quality, observability, reliability, cost efficiency, and delivery speed across production systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a closely related technical field.

• 2+ years of experience in building and operating production LLM-powered systems.

• Proven expertise in agentic systems, RAG architectures, or AI orchestration frameworks.

• Strong foundation in machine learning principles.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems and software architecture.

• Professional expertise in Python.

• History of quantitatively evaluating AI system quality and taking action based on the findings.

• Experience in mentoring engineers in technical and architectural decision-making.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with both technical and executive audiences.

• Capability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
