Associate Applied AI Engineer

📋 Description

• Employ a defined technical strategy to develop production-quality functionalities.

• Engage in requirements discussions with business stakeholders to grasp workflows, business needs, and desired outcomes.

• Offer insights and alternative solutions during the design phase.

• Recognize opportunities to streamline solutions or minimize the AI component when suitable.

• Create comprehensive applications that incorporate AI capabilities with prompt and retrieval design, structured outputs, tool and function definitions, API integration, data handling, error management, and user-facing functionalities.

• Develop evaluation sets from real data, assess results, and report findings accurately.

• Analyze failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.

• Assist in client demonstrations and proof-of-concept initiatives.

• Solicit feedback and enhance understanding of client requirements and AI best practices.

• Document and instrument work, including logging, traceability, intended behavior, known limitations, validation methods, and failure management.

• Transition between client delivery, internal product development, rapid proof-of-concept creation, and internal capacity building.

• Proactively highlight blockers, unclear requirements, and questionable results.

• Share reusable patterns, prompts, and evaluation tools with the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

• Over 1 year of professional software development experience.

• Practical experience in building applications that incorporate large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and/or tool utilization.

• Experience can be gained through professional roles, internships, academic research, or significant personal/open-source initiatives.

• Experience in developing applications that integrate AI functionalities with APIs, data handling, and user-facing components.

• Proficiency in a general-purpose programming language such as Python, TypeScript, or SQL, along with experience in API integration and working with imperfect data.

• Capability to conduct requirement discussions with non-technical stakeholders, identify underlying needs, and propose an appropriate solution.

• Openness to question designs and advocate for alternatives.

• Ability to navigate ambiguous requirements with support, ask insightful questions, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Honesty regarding the limits of your knowledge and a readiness to seek clarification rather than making assumptions.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Capability to obtain and maintain any federal government background checks, suitability determinations, or security clearances required for assigned client projects.

• Previous client-facing experience in consulting, solutions engineering, professional services, or implementation.

• Familiarity with low-code or application platforms such as Appian, OutSystems, Mendix, Microsoft Power Platform, ServiceNow, or Salesforce.

• Experience in delivering services to the public sector or regulated industries.

• Familiarity with cloud AI services such as AWS Bedrock or Azure OpenAI.

• Knowledge of LLM evaluation or observability tools.

• Involvement in personal or open-source projects related to language models, agents, retrieval, or evaluation.
