Senior Digital Automation Engineer, ROCKS Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions utilizing Ansible across VMware vCenter, bare-metal, and cloud settings.

• Automate the provisioning of VMs, management of templates, configuration of networks, allocation of storage, PXE boot processes, hardware setup, BIOS/firmware management, operating system deployment, and provisioning of cloud resources.

• Create reusable, modular Ansible roles and collections.

• Craft custom Ansible modules, plugins, and filters using Python.

• Construct and sustain CI/CD pipelines for testing, validating, and deploying automation scripts.

• Integrate automation with Git, secrets management tools, and monitoring systems.

• Develop RESTful API integrations with enterprise applications.

• Produce runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.

• Oversee automation execution, resolve failures, and enhance reliability and performance.

• Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical automation infrastructure.

• Monitor and report automation metrics, including deployment frequency, success rates, and time savings.

• Provide support for the ROCKS Kubernetes-based container management platform for both classified and unclassified deployments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in a related discipline with at least 5 years of experience.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

• Active DoD Secret security clearance is required from day one.

• Familiarity with Ansible execution environments and containerized automation.

• Experience in programming and scripting.

• Knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy automation.

• Proficiency in Linux system administration, preferably RHEL/CentOS.

• Experience in Windows Server administration, specifically versions 2019/2022.

• Preferred: experience with network and storage configuration.

• Preferred: knowledge of VMware vSphere/vCenter administration and automation.

• Preferred: advanced PowerShell scripting skills, including 2+ years' experience and Desired State Configuration (DSC).

• Preferred: Python development background, including 3+ years' experience with REST API development and consumption.

• Preferred: bare metal provisioning experience, including PXE, Kickstart/Preseed, and hardware management.

• Preferred: understanding of operating system security, hardening techniques, and compliance frameworks.

• Preferred: familiarity with system internals, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

• Preferred: experience with YAML, JSON, and INI configuration files.

• Preferred: 4+ years of hands-on experience with Ansible.

• Preferred: knowledge of Ansible architecture, including playbooks, roles, collections, inventories, and vault.

• Preferred: experience with custom Ansible modules, plugins, callbacks, and filters.

• Preferred: familiarity with Ansible Galaxy and reusable collections.

• Preferred: knowledge of Jinja2 templating and YAML best practices.

• The successful candidate must reside and work in one of the 50 U.S. states, excluding U.S. territories.
