This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Design and develop prototypes, reference implementations, and sample repositories.
• Create functional prototypes to verify product direction and speed up engineering iterations.
• Develop tools that alleviate challenges in analytics engineering workflows.
• Write technical content for the dbt Developer Blog, guides, and documentation.
• Share insights on data and analytics engineering knowledge and best practices.
• Create enablement materials for internal teams and the dbt Community.
• Act as a subject matter expert during product launches.
• Represent the product area in Community Slack, GitHub, conferences, and public forums.
• Gather and synthesize community feedback for product and engineering teams.
• Incorporate practitioner viewpoints into product design reviews.
• Identify potential issues, regressions, and gaps in developer experience.
• Manage and triage open-source repositories and community initiatives.
• Contribute to code and design reviews that focus on developer ergonomics.
• Report directly to the Director of Community, Developer Experience & AI.
• 5 or more years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of the data industry and its evolving landscape.
• Hands-on experience with dbt and practitioner-level fluency.
• Excellent public communication skills in both spoken and written technical formats.
• Proven history of published articles or public-facing content related to data or analytics engineering.
• Solid foundation in data and analytics engineering principles.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Ability to contribute to open-source codebases.
• Familiarity and comfort with AI technologies.
• Capability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision.
• Operational discipline to prioritize tasks and communicate them effectively across various contexts.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to convert user needs into actionable product feedback.
