Senior Design Engineer, Design Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the foundational architecture of the design system across Figma and code.

• Develop primitives, tokens, components, patterns, and essential user flows.

• Create reusable, production-ready components that incorporate interaction, motion, states, and accessibility.

• Ensure alignment between Figma, code, and Storybook.

• Define system standards while upholding consistency, accessibility, and quality.

• Innovate AI tooling and capabilities for system-driven prototyping and development.

• Draft documentation, usage guidelines, and component regulations.

• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers on intricate workflows and edge cases.

• Construct Clipboard's design system infrastructure that bridges design and engineering across various products.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in developing production frontend design systems for multiple product interfaces across mobile and web.

• Proficient frontend engineering skills utilizing modern web technologies and component-based architecture.

• Ability to quickly adapt to a large, established codebase.

• Exceptional UI and UX craftsmanship with a keen sense of product aesthetics.

• Extensive experience in building and maintaining component libraries, design-token pipelines, Storybook, visual regression, and Figma workflows or plugins.

• Strong understanding of accessibility principles for both mobile and web platforms.

• Experience in establishing or consolidating design systems and aligning Figma libraries with production code.

• Practical experience using AI to accelerate the development of prototypes, components, and system-related tasks.

• Experience in creating skills, documentation, and guidelines that facilitate AI-assisted development within a design system.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Preference for building and iterating directly in code.

• Senior-level judgment in navigating ambiguous, high-impact work.

• A portfolio of work demonstrating design-engineering contributions across production UI, component systems, prototypes, and system documentation.

• A link to a portfolio or relevant design work is required.

• Must provide services from an eligible country and possess authorization to work in the country of residence.
