This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +9 more states.
• Create designs for power utility substations in accordance with relevant codes and client specifications.
• Develop general arrangements, electrical layouts, equipment layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding and conduit drawings, detailed specifications, bills of materials, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids utilizing applicable codes and industry-standard software.
• Formulate lightning protection and grounding strategies.
• Conduct AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
• Generate specifications for equipment and materials, outline design scopes, and prepare cost estimates.
• Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning initiatives.
• Prepare documentation to support procurement, construction, and system operation/maintenance.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Facilitate client meetings and conduct job site visits.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and evaluate and approve engineering design packages.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• 7-10 years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Exceptional document management and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work.
• Ability to handle multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines concurrently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to work efficiently in a team setting and engage professionally with clients and stakeholders.
