Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Deliver operational database services to Upland Software in a production capacity.

• Support the Cloud Operations team in migrating MySQL from version 5.6 to 8.0.43.

• Take ownership of database infrastructure design, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.

• Collaborate with Development to devise strategic solutions for recurring issues.

• Manage, track, and resolve database-related incidents and requests in accordance with SLAs.

• Review database backups, maintenance, and monitoring reports to identify and rectify service issues.

• Respond to database alerts and escalations promptly.

• Maintain clear communication with technology customers regarding the status of their requests.

• Initiate and carry out changes on production systems, proactively escalating unresolved issues.

• Manage over 19 MySQL instances across five AWS regions utilizing RDS and EC2.

• Oversee DocumentDB and DynamoDB clusters to ensure high availability and scalability.

• Implement strategies for backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.

• Ensure compliance with PCI DSS standards and secure encryption of data both at rest and in transit.

• Collaborate with Development and CloudOps teams to provide resilient, high-performance database solutions.

• Maintain and optimize environments for Amazon RDS, DocumentDB, and DynamoDB.

• Monitor and fine-tune database performance, capacity, and replication processes.

• Manage cross-region read replicas, multi-AZ deployments, and failover protocols.

• Implement and validate automated backup and recovery systems.

• Utilize CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Alert Logic, and SNS notifications for monitoring.

• Conduct disaster recovery testing and maintain documentation for failover procedures.

• Identify opportunities for cost optimization related to storage, backups, and data transfer.

• Coordinate database alerting, escalation, and response procedures across global teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in MySQL database administration within a production environment.

• At least 5 years of experience in AWS cloud database management, specifically with RDS, DocumentDB, and DynamoDB.

• A minimum of 5 years working within an Amazon Web Services production environment featuring multi-region, high-availability database architectures.

• Strong background in Windows Server administration on AWS EC2 instances.

• Experience with previous upgrades of MySQL legacy systems to version 8.x.

• Extensive experience across various database platforms.

• Ability and eagerness to quickly learn new systems with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to automate solutions effectively.

• Capability to collaborate efficiently with multiple teams.

• Skill in explaining complex technical issues to non-technical business stakeholders.

• Exceptional communication and documentation abilities.

• Knowledge of PCI DSS compliance standards.

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python.

• Expertise in monitoring tools like CloudWatch, SNS, and third-party applications.
