Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and oversee PostgreSQL clusters within AWS environments utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.

• Create automation processes for the provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring of PostgreSQL databases.

• Conduct regular database maintenance tasks, including vacuuming, reindexing, and analyzing statistics.

• Identify, analyze, and enhance slow SQL queries and workloads.

• Develop resilient, high-availability database architectures that minimize downtime during upgrades, maintenance, and failovers.

• Establish backup, recovery, and disaster recovery protocols.

• Provide support and monitoring for 24/7 production systems, engaging in incident response and root cause analysis.

• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams to enhance scalability, performance, and CI/CD integration for database operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in production settings.

• In-depth knowledge of SQL query optimization, indexing techniques, and PostgreSQL performance enhancement.

• Demonstrated ability to design and sustain highly available, fault-tolerant systems with minimal or no downtime.

• Experience with supporting mission-critical 24/7 systems in production, including participation in on-call or incident response activities.

• Practical experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, EBS, S3, and IAM.

• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL replication, PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery), and high-availability solutions (Repmgr, Patroni, ProxySQL, or similar).

• Experience in automating infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar platforms.

• Proficient in Linux systems administration and scripting languages (Bash, Python, or Go).

• Familiarity with observability and alerting tools (Prometheus, Loki, Grafana, CloudWatch) is a plus.

• Exposure to additional database systems such as ClickHouse or TimeScale Postgres is advantageous.

• Experience in developing internal automation or self-healing tools for query analysis and database management is beneficial.
