Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, administer, manage, and document MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB clusters across multiple nodes.

• Utilize HAProxy for load balancing, failover, and ensuring high availability across various environments.

• Troubleshoot PL/SQL, stored procedures, and packages within Oracle databases.

• Analyze, resolve, and rectify database issues in real-time.

• Provide guidance to Division management regarding the integration of IT programs.

• Oversee database performance monitoring and system health architecture initiatives.

• Establish standards for database architecture along with high-availability and disaster-recovery strategies.

• Optimize both relational and non-relational data stores and clusters.

• Manage database asset inventories along with associated documentation.

• Deliver expert DBA services for production, staging, and development databases.

• Collaborate with senior developers and data modelers on physical database design.

• Support automated and ad-hoc reporting, ETL processes, and data pipeline development.

• Offer technical expertise, mentorship, and cross-training opportunities.

• Analyze user experiences and recommend modifications to enhance user satisfaction and query performance.

• Ensure the maintenance of database security, backup and recovery procedures, and performance monitoring standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Technical training, certifications, or a degree in a relevant field.

• A minimum of 3 years of related experience.

• Experience in Linux environments.

• Strong command-line proficiency, including Unix shell scripting, PowerShell, and AWS CLI for managing cloud storage.

• Experience with SQL technologies including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle.

• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB.

• Familiarity with configuring and managing HAProxy/Keepalived for database load balancing, connection pooling, and automated failover routing.

• Experience with automated database backups, managing repositories like pgBackRest, and implementing backup retention strategies using AWS S3 object storage.

• Capability to execute complex command-line scripts and SQL queries.

• Ability to work independently without a managed database service.

• Advanced understanding of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.

• Strong ability to prioritize and manage a range of workloads with tight deadlines.

• Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficiency in conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Must be eligible to obtain an EPA Public Trust Level 4.
