Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Become a member of GDIT’s SMAVCS4 team, providing support to the Environmental Protection Agency and its Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.

• Collaborate with the EPA Product Team and software developers.

• Install, configure, administer, manage, and document MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB in clustered master/replica setups.

• Utilize HAProxy for load balancing, failover, and ensuring high availability across various nodes and environments.

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve PL/SQL, stored procedures, and Oracle database package issues in real-time.

• Provide management with advice on the integration of IT programs.

• Oversee database performance monitoring, as well as system health engineering and architecture initiatives.

• Define standards for database architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, and optimization.

• Manage database assets, inventories, and associated documentation.

• Deliver expert DBA services for production, staging, and development databases.

• Collaborate with senior developers and data modelers on physical database design.

• Support automated and ad-hoc reporting, ETL processes, and data pipelines.

• Offer technical expertise, mentorship, and cross-training opportunities.

• Evaluate user experience and suggest design improvements to enhance user satisfaction and query performance.

• Uphold database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

• US citizenship is mandatory.

• Must be eligible to obtain EPA Public Trust Level 4.

• Experience in Linux environments is essential.

• Strong command-line proficiency, including Unix shell scripting, PowerShell, and AWS CLI.

• Familiarity with SQL technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle is required.

• Experience with NoSQL technologies, particularly MongoDB.

• Proven ability to configure and manage HAProxy/Keepalived for database load balancing, connection pooling, and automated failover routing.

• Experience in managing automated database backups, utilizing repositories such as pgBackRest, and implementing backup retention strategies using AWS S3 object storage.

• Competence in executing complex command-line scripts and SQL queries.

• Capability to operate without a managed database service.

• Advanced understanding of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring best practices.

• Ability to prioritize and manage diverse workloads under tight deadlines.

• Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Outstanding communication skills and a professional demeanor.

• Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Aptitude for managing equipment and services in remote locations.

• Proficiency in working effectively within a remote team environment.

• Ability to perform well under pressure.

• Strong customer service orientation.

• Organized workflow with a keen attention to detail.

• Experience with MongoDB OpsManager is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Oracle Database Appliances is an advantage.

• Knowledge or experience with Documentum or enterprise content management database backends is a plus.

• Experience working on Federal Sector Contracts is beneficial.

• Professional certification(s) are advantageous.

• Familiarity with DevOps and ITIL Agile processes is beneficial.
