Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Assist in discovery and source evaluation, schema design, data mapping, migration development, transition planning, execution in production, and ongoing maintenance.

• Inventory, catalog, and assess XML data sources, which include schemas, DTDs, and XSDs.

• Create a Discovery and Assessment Report that documents source structures, update frequencies, XSD/DTD constraints, and any data anomalies.

• Strategize and implement consistent XML-to-relational database migration methods.

• Design normalized relational schemas and map XML hierarchies to tables, keys, indexes, parent-child relationships, and junction tables.

• Generate Entity-Relationship Diagrams and Data Dictionaries that document target structures and their mappings.

• Create and sustain ETL routines utilizing database-native SQL, T-SQL, XPath/XQuery, and XML parsers.

• Keep audit logs for both migrated and unmigrated records, and monitor repeated migrations and updates.

• Execute unit tests for data verification and reconciliation.

• Provide migration scripts and pipeline source code that include audit logging and automated verification checks.

• Plan and carry out production migrations using documented runbooks and rollback strategies.

• Conduct verification and reconciliation to ensure the completeness and accuracy of migrations.

• Offer maintenance and migration interval plans for ongoing daily, on-demand, or record-update migrations.

• Facilitate continuous updates to scripts and data schemas over time.

• Collaborate with analysts, designers, developers, testers, systems engineers, DBAs, scrum masters, business owners, and management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in server database maintenance and administration or a comparable role.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

• Strong proficiency in SQL for query development, data modeling, schema optimization, and initial data analysis.

• Experience in installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting relational databases, including backup and recovery processes.

• Familiarity with performance tuning, database security protocols, access controls, routine task automation, and SSL certificate installation.

• Proven experience in leading technical projects, managing deliverables, and offering technical support or training.

• Expertise in complex XML schemas and hierarchical data structures, including XPath and XQuery.

• Background in designing and implementing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) workflows, featuring error handling, logging, validation, transformations, and performance optimization.

• Experience with SQL Server XML data types and capabilities, including storing, querying, parsing, transforming, and validating XML using XPath and XQuery.

• Strong practical experience with Entity Framework (EF) / Entity Framework Core (EF Core) and knowledge of LINQ-to-SQL translation.

• Experience in communicating and collaborating with developers, testers, systems engineers, DBAs, scrum masters, business owners, and management.

• Familiarity with Agile principles and methodologies, including the SAFe Framework.

• IBM Database certification is a plus.

• U.S. citizenship is not a requirement.

• Willingness to travel less than 10% of the time.
