This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Implement, maintain, and upgrade SQL Server instances within AWS, which includes both EC2-hosted and RDS environments.

• Manage and support cloud-native AWS data services such as Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and S3 Tables-based data lakes.

• Collaborate with Systems Engineers to eliminate obstacles, troubleshoot intricate SQL Server issues, and ensure successful deployments.

• Oversee the health of the database infrastructure with assistance from the Network Operations Center team.

• Enhance database performance, system reliability, resource utilization, and cost-effectiveness.

• Assess and implement cloud-native AWS database alternatives.

• Work alongside development teams on application design, deployment, optimization, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.

• Create SQL commands, stored procedures, and PowerShell scripts to automate administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting tasks.

• Act as the primary SQL Server resource for both self-managed and AWS-managed environments.

• Facilitate the transition to AWS-native database services and evaluate appropriate options for new and migrating workloads.

• Maintain configuration and process documentation, sharing database knowledge with engineers and developers.

• Participate in a shared evening and weekend on-call schedule with other Lead DBAs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration, including more than 7 years managing large, mission-critical production systems.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with cloud-native AWS database services, including RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB/Redshift.

• Practical experience with SQL Server hosted on EC2 and RDS.

• Proficiency in Aurora, RDS Multi-AZ/read replica configurations, DynamoDB, Redshift, and S3-based data lakes/S3 Tables.

• Experience in diagnosing and resolving deadlocks and long-running queries utilizing Extended Events, DMVs, or trace flags.

• Background in managing very large databases, partitioned data storage, data replication, and the bulk movement of substantial data sets.

• In-depth knowledge of database maintenance, schema management, storage management, backup management, and disaster recovery.

• Experience in deploying, supporting, and optimizing SQL Server, SQL Replication, and SQL Agent.

• Proficiency in assessing and tuning SQL Server performance across hardware, storage, and network layers.

• Advanced SQL programming capabilities, including queries, stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions.

• Strong understanding of database theory and design principles.

• Familiarity with database security and auditing, including IAM database authentication and KMS encryption.

• Knowledge of SQL Server versions dating back to 2019 and familiarity with current-generation features such as SQL Server 2025.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

• A Master's degree is preferred.

• Preferred qualifications include experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using CloudFormation or CDK, Ansible, AWS cost optimization, AI-assisted database monitoring, Foglight, Jira, Confluence, data warehouse/data lake concepts, OLAP, data migration techniques, and relevant certifications.
