Senior Data Scientist – Payments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead quantitative measurement initiatives to influence decision-making within Airbnb’s payment experience.

• Formulate hypotheses, construct causal inference frameworks, and create and assess models for payment strategies.

• Concentrate on mitigating payment fraud and optimizing losses to enhance platform safety.

• Develop and utilize experimental, econometric regression, and quasi-experimental causal inference techniques.

• Establish solid evaluation methods for the efficiency and performance of ML/AI models.

• Identify use cases and create predictive models to classify, segment, and analyze user behavior.

• Assist in the evaluation and optimization of agentic and LLM-based systems.

• Create methodologies for simulating new interventions and develop data products that enhance product and operational strategies.

• Produce research reports and data visualizations.

• Work collaboratively with stakeholders to present findings, uncover opportunities, and drive impactful changes.

• Enhance and expand brand measurement and customer insights.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of industry experience in a quantitative analysis position with a Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, or over 3 years of experience with a PhD.

• Extensive knowledge of causal inference, experimentation, applied statistical modeling, and comprehensive ML development.

• Proficient in statistical programming using Python or R.

• Experience with database management using SQL.

• Proven history of managing a business or technical domain from start to finish.

• Capability to establish a roadmap, serve as an accountable expert, and resolve issues effectively.

• Established ability to communicate clearly and effectively to diverse audiences with varying technical expertise.

• Competence to work independently, create a roadmap, and ensure cross-functional alignment.

• Expertise in the payments fraud/risk domain is highly advantageous.

• Familiarity with the evaluation of agentic or LLM-based systems is beneficial.

• Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. is registered.
