This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Create and execute sophisticated fraud detection models utilizing machine learning and statistical methodologies.
• Partner with engineering, product, and operations teams to develop and implement systems and processes for fraud detection.
• Examine extensive datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies that signify fraudulent activity.
• Generate data-driven insights to enhance strategies for fraud prevention.
• Assess, refine, and refresh existing fraud detection models and systems in response to evolving fraud trends and tactics.
• Remain updated on developments in fraud detection, data science, and machine learning.
• Utilize new knowledge to bolster fraud prevention measures.
• Present complex data analyses and model performance findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Promote data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy and security in fraud detection and data analysis.
• Contribute to the development of Oscilar's machine learning infrastructure as an early member of the ML team.
• Over 3 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field, concentrating on fraud prevention and/or anti-money laundering.
• Proficient in Python programming.
• Familiarity with cloud development (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) and MLOps is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques, particularly their application in fraud detection.
• Experience with large datasets using distributed systems such as Apache Spark and Dask.
• Background in data cleaning, data quality, data transformation, and feature engineering at scale.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of deriving actionable insights from complex data.
• Strong communication skills, able to clarify complex concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
• Previous experience in the fintech, marketplaces, or financial services sectors is preferred.
• Awareness of current fraud tactics and trends, along with experience using fraud detection tools and systems, is preferred.
