This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand, +1 more country.
• Develop and enhance Xero’s frameworks for privacy, data, and AI governance.
• Facilitate the swift and responsible utilization of data along with the adoption and deployment of AI throughout the organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to convert governance policies and requirements into practical, user-friendly guidance at scale.
• Promote the acceptance of governance guidance.
• Provide impactful literacy programs and customized educational resources.
• Enhance data and AI capabilities across Xero.
• Work alongside Regulatory, Privacy, and Risk functions to adapt to evolving legislation and customer expectations.
• Offer advice to decision-makers on governance frameworks to ensure safe experimentation and development.
• Co-create practical approaches to data and AI governance that address issues of bias, transparency, and explainability.
• Report to the Director of Data & AI Governance while collaborating with teams in Product, Privacy, Security, Regulatory, Risk, and Government Relations.
• Extensive understanding of data governance frameworks and practices.
• Experience in establishing stewardship models and governance forums.
• Familiarity with data catalogs and data quality platforms.
• Recent practical experience in AI governance.
• Capability to comprehend AI systems and address ethical, regulatory, and operational challenges of responsible AI at scale.
• Experience collaborating with engineers and technical specialists.
• Technical proficiency in data architecture, quality, and lineage.
• Practical experience in bridging policy and technical implementation.
• Ability to simplify complex regulatory and policy requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
• Skill in explaining governance concepts to technical subject matter experts and technical concepts to policy stakeholders.
• Knowledge of GDPR, the EU AI Act, and CCPA.
• Understanding of ISO 27001/SOC2 certification frameworks.
• A growth mindset and a passion for automating processes, improving systems, and sharing insights.
