This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Collaborate individually, within legal teams, and alongside cross-functional R&D and business teams across multiple regions.
• Partner with Amgen scientists to pinpoint patentable subject matter.
• Draft, submit, and prosecute patent applications globally.
• Perform prior art searches.
• Evaluate patents and formulate freedom-to-operate opinions.
• Conduct due diligence to support licensing initiatives.
• Negotiate and draft research agreements.
• Offer legal guidance and counsel to R&D and business collaborators on IP-related issues.
• Assist with matters related to litigation.
• Challenge and defend patents in PTAB, opposition proceedings, and other venues.
• J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited law institution.
• Licensed to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• A minimum of four (4+) years of experience in intellectual property law.
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Preferably ten (10) or more years of experience in patent or intellectual property law.
• Experience in U.S. and international intellectual property law related to biotechnology at a law firm or a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company is preferred.
• An advanced degree, such as a master’s or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry, is preferred.
• Exceptional analytical, legal drafting, and oral and written communication skills.
• Strong management and leadership capabilities.
• A solid client service orientation.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.
• Ability to operate efficiently, prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage complex projects in a fast-paced setting.
• Preferred experience in U.S. and/or international adversarial proceedings, including patent litigation, Inter Partes Reviews, Post Grant Reviews, and oppositions.
