This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a versatile media and entertainment attorney, providing support for distribution, programming, production, licensing, advertising, marketing, operations, and corporate initiatives.
• Draft, evaluate, negotiate, and offer counsel on commercial agreements, which include content licensing, production, services, vendor, nondisclosure, release, and other media-related contracts.
• Assist with original production and content-rights activities, encompassing development, production, clearance, rights, releases, production services, location matters, risk management, acquisition, usage, distribution, renewal, sublicensing, exclusivity, windowing, territory, term, and rights-clearance issues.
• Provide legal support for distribution-related matters, including carriage, affiliation, retransmission, platform, and digital distribution agreements.
• Oversee litigation and disputes management, including strategies for outside counsel, budget considerations, pleadings and correspondence, discovery, settlement evaluation, pre-litigation disputes, demand letters, claims, subpoenas, investigations, and stakeholder communications.
• Offer practical advice on negotiation tactics, risk mitigation, contract interpretation, compliance duties, operational inquiries, and dispute avoidance.
• Maintain templates, playbooks, approval processes, and best practices.
• Support advancements in responsible AI and technology within the legal department.
• Keep abreast of pertinent legal and industry developments.
• Assist with special projects as assigned.
• Collaborate closely with business leaders to drive outcomes and manage risks.
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active law license in good standing with at least one state bar; preference for OH, NY, or GA.
• Typically, 10+ years of experience in a media and/or television environment with content distributed through linear and non-linear channels, including broadcast, cable, streaming, and digital platforms is preferred.
• Extensive experience practicing law in a law firm, corporate legal department, media company, entertainment company, or similar business setting.
• Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating media/entertainment-focused agreements is preferred.
• Practical legal judgment and risk assessment capabilities.
• Strong orientation towards business partnership and client service.
• Skills in contract drafting and negotiation.
• Experience in litigation management and dispute resolution.
• Fluency in media, production, licensing, and distribution.
• Clear communication skills and executive presence.
• Project management and prioritization abilities.
• Proficiency with technology, including a willingness to embrace artificial intelligence and other tools for efficient, high-quality legal services.
• A collaborative, collegial, and team-oriented approach.
