Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor – Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients and provide enhanced cost management services.

• Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction process.

• Create and deliver cost plans, estimates, budgets, and monthly financial reports.

• Assess cost estimates from design teams and general contractors.

• Validate contractor data and reconcile changes.

• Collect project status information and update cost estimates accordingly.

• Review contractor submissions and draft written comments and executive summaries.

• Coordinate cost information from clients, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, and engineers.

• Prioritize engineering efforts based on cost implications.

• Oversee cost checks, valuations, audits, and validation processes.

• Manage cost variances, change controls, contingencies, commitments, and financial risks.

• Prepare funding presentations and facilitate value-engineering sessions.

• Lead bid reviews, procurement strategies, cost analyses, and negotiations with contractors and subcontractors.

• Align cost plans with schedules to optimize cash flow, accruals, and forecasting.

• Develop parametric and hybrid cost models for estimation, benchmarking, and scenario planning.

• Utilize historical data, market intelligence, and industry trends effectively.

• Support AI-driven cost-modeling tools and scalable cost intelligence platforms.

• Collaborate with technical teams to convert workflows into digital solutions.

• Partner with clients and project teams regarding scope, costs, and delivery strategies.

• Provide valuable engineering insights and data-driven recommendations.

• Communicate cost and risk insights to senior stakeholders.

• Contribute to enterprise-level cost strategies, capital planning, and long-range forecasting.

• Negotiate and finalize accounts.

• Compile built-cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.

• Mentor team members and promote continuous improvement.

• Monitor commission margins, fees, resource forecasts, and financial reports using internal software.

• Implement business management systems, delivery methodologies, and tools.

• Comply with SOX controls where applicable.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related construction field.

• A minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.

• RICS accreditation or working towards it is preferred.

• Experience leading cost management on medium to large-scale, medium to high-complexity construction projects.

• Strong preference for candidates with construction consultancy experience.

• In-depth knowledge of technical aspects of the construction industry, procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Ability to engage in a client-facing role.

• Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

• On-site presence may be required and is subject to change based on client needs.
