Senior Controls Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Assess and validate the scope of BMS, PMS, SCADA, and OT for new proposals in collaboration with Sales and Estimating.

• Examine specifications, Basis of Design, drawings, equipment counts, panel requirements, and bid documentation.

• Recognize scope gaps, risks, and opportunities throughout the bid and preconstruction stages.

• Formulate technical scope, assumptions, and clarifications.

• Facilitate the transition of awarded projects from Sales to Design Engineering.

• Lead the IFC Draft and IFC Final page-turns, tracking actions and design comments until resolution.

• Identify and monitor design changes that impact project scope, cost, or schedule.

• Create and evaluate control system architectures, software, control narratives, points lists, network architecture, and technical documentation.

• Assist with the design of control panels, instrumentation, and equipment interfaces.

• Conduct technical reviews and provide engineering support throughout design, integration, and construction phases.

• Diagnose complex controls, communications, and system integration challenges.

• Configure and develop PLC and associated control platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, and Schneider.

• Aid in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and system integration efforts.

• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.

• Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and partners.

• Serve as the technical liaison between Design Engineering, Sales, PMO, and Integration teams.

• Assist project leadership in identifying risks, resolving issues, and ensuring delivery alignment.

• Guarantee that engineering deliverables meet standards for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

• Support and enhance the QMS while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Over 5 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, control system integration, or design engineering.

• Experience with complex industrial, life sciences, data center, or mission-critical projects.

• Familiarity with various stages of the project lifecycle, including design, integration, commissioning, and/or preconstruction.

• Experience in reviewing technical specifications, design documents, and project scope.

• Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, BMS, and EPMS systems, including Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, and Ignition.

• Background in control system design, software development, system integration, and commissioning.

• Comprehensive understanding of control system architecture, instrumentation, control panels, equipment interfaces, and OT networks.

• Experience reviewing the Basis of Design, specifications, drawings, equipment schedules, and bid/design documentation.

• Ability to identify technical scope gaps, risks, assumptions, exclusions, and opportunities during preconstruction.

• Strong grasp of technical scope, project costs, timelines, and commercial risk.

• Capability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives, points lists, and system architecture diagrams.

• Ability to lead or assist in design reviews, IFC page-turns, and technical submittal evaluations.

• Understanding of FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
