Senior Coder Abstractor – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Evaluate each medical record to identify which items will be coded and abstracted.

• Precisely code and abstract inpatient medical records in line with work assignments and productivity benchmarks.

• Allocate ICD10-CM diagnosis, ICD10-PCS procedure, and CPT-4 procedure codes in accordance with national standards, departmental guidelines, and the AHIMA Code of Ethics.

• Abstract and/or modify medical record data based on departmental protocols.

• Assign and input charges for ER evaluation and management levels, infusions, injections, and various procedures.

• Engage with physicians and Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists to seek clarification or additional information from records.

• Keep an organized repository for personal coding reference materials.

• Take part in educational initiatives and enhance coding skills.

• Work collaboratively with CDI to promote coding accuracy and optimal billing results.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information, or a CCS certification along with a minimum of 2 years of coding experience will be considered.

• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification is mandatory.

• One to three years of prior experience utilizing ICD10-CM and ICD10-PCS coding systems is required.

• A minimum of two years of inpatient coding experience, including coding for highly complex diagnoses and procedures, is necessary.

• Familiarity with Prebill processes is essential.

• Timely communication and collaboration with CDI are crucial to ensure coding accuracy and optimal billing outcomes.

• Proven ability to meet productivity and quality standards.

• Must have received vaccinations or lab-confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.

• Must obtain a flu vaccine during the flu season of the hiring year and annually thereafter, or possess an approved medical or religious exemption.
