This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.
• Develop and validate SONiC software functionalities for Arista switches and extensive data center networks.
• Collaborate with engineers and marketing team members to gather and comprehend functional and technical requirements.
• Draft functional specifications, design specifications, and testing plans.
• Implement system software solutions utilizing C, C++, and Python.
• Create and execute automated testing protocols.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified by automated testing procedures.
• Collaborate with a team to implement, test, and debug larger routing protocol solutions.
• Work with Customer Support Engineers to analyze customer network issues and deliver software releases or patches.
• Address System Test Engineer concerns and provide necessary fixes.
• Guide and mentor new and junior engineers within Arista’s software development framework and SONiC development.
• Review and contribute to the specifications and implementations from team members and the SONiC community.
• Establish and maintain implementation and debugging timelines, reporting weekly to the project lead.
• Take ownership of projects from inception to deployment, ensuring the quality of deliverables.
• BSc, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
• Over 2 years of relevant postgraduate work experience.
• Proficient in C, C++, and/or Python.
• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of L2/L3 networking concepts.
• Knowledge of at least one desirable area of routing or Layer 2 networking, such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, PIM, bridging, STP, LACP, LLDP, or IP routing.
• Capability to utilize, test, and debug packet forwarding engines along with vendor-supplied hardware component software libraries.
• Understanding of distributed-systems infrastructure functions, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interface techniques.
• Practical knowledge of software engineering principles.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and software troubleshooting skills.
• Competence in independently designing and implementing solutions for small-scale problems.
• Ability to collaborate within a small team to address medium-scale problems with minimal supervision.
• Experience in Ethernet bridging, routing-related software, or distributed-systems software is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise or service-provider Ethernet switch/router system software development, or significant PhD-level research in network routing and packet forwarding, is preferred.
