Senior Backend Engineer – Platform Modernization, Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Design and execute secure API gateway functionalities, which encompass authentication, authorization, token validation, access controls, rate limiting, monitoring, and caching.

• Streamline and modernize backend services and APIs to develop cohesive, scalable, and maintainable service interfaces.

• Break down legacy monolithic components into modular services and establish event-driven integrations.

• Create and implement workflow orchestration solutions to automate intricate business processes, service interactions, and scheduled tasks.

• Develop essential platform services, APIs, integrations, and reusable components that support new business capabilities and partner-facing solutions.

• Assist in performance testing, traffic ramp validation, and production migration efforts.

• Securely retire legacy code paths once replacement services have been thoroughly validated.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive backend engineering experience with practical expertise in RESTful API development, API Gateway, IAM, authentication, authorization, and cloud security.

• Practical experience with AWS cloud services, especially API Gateway, IAM, S3, EventBridge, and Step Functions.

• Experience in designing and implementing event-driven architectures, including AWS EventBridge, event schema design, asynchronous communication, and service integration.

• Demonstrated experience in modernizing and decomposing legacy monolithic applications, employing feature flags, incremental migration strategies, and event-driven integration.

• Hands-on experience with AWS Step Functions, covering state-machine design, workflow orchestration, and asynchronous task-token callbacks.

• Proficient in designing OAuth2-secured APIs and partner integrations, including multi-tenant configurations and API/SDK development.

• Familiarity with third-party service and external system integrations, encompassing APIs, document platforms, authentication providers, and partner services.

• Experience conducting performance and load testing to validate backend services, APIs, and cloud-based workloads.

• Knowledge of observability and production monitoring, including distributed tracing, logging, metrics, and troubleshooting of distributed applications.

• Experience in supporting production migrations and traffic transitions, which include traffic validation, feature flags, and the safe retirement of legacy components.

• Proficient JavaScript/SDK development skills with the ability to contribute to API and partner-facing platform capabilities.

• Comfortable working in an Agile environment with two-week sprint cycles, effectively collaborating within a cross-functional engineering team.
