This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more locations.
• Design, enhance, and sustain Node.js backend services, modules, and APIs.
• Introduce new features to current Node.js modules while ensuring compatibility, reliability, and maintainability.
• Integrate Node.js services and modules with backend services, APIs, and platform components.
• Take ownership of complex backend functionalities from technical design through to implementation and delivery.
• Enhance and support existing backend services, including troubleshooting and resolving intricate production issues.
• Develop solutions that involve distributed systems, messaging and event streaming systems, caches, and NoSQL data stores.
• Write and maintain thorough unit and integration tests while improving test coverage and code quality.
• Participate in technical design and code evaluation processes.
• Identify opportunities to enhance maintainability, reliability, and engineering practices.
• Collaborate across teams with Product, engineers, and technical leads.
• Effectively and responsibly utilize AI-assisted development tools.
• Support Wordly's real-time translation services, which are delivered in over 50 languages.
• More than 5 years of practical backend engineering experience, particularly in developing and maintaining Node.js services and APIs.
• Solid hands-on experience with Node.js and JavaScript in production backend settings.
• Experience in extending and maintaining existing Node.js modules, services, and integrations.
• Familiarity with Node.js backend frameworks.
• Strong grasp of asynchronous programming and event-driven backend patterns.
• Extensive experience working in distributed systems and microservice architectures.
• Background in messaging and event streaming systems, NoSQL databases, distributed caches, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Significant experience in writing and maintaining unit and integration tests.
• Proficient in debugging and resolving complex issues within backend services.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, or similar options.
• Familiarity with modern software development workflows, including version control and code review practices.
• Comfortable collaborating with a fully remote team.
• Self-driven and capable of independently delivering complex backend functionalities.
• A B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.

• Office space available in Los Altos, California for residents of the San Francisco Bay Area who wish to utilize it.
