Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and manage database components such as data ingestion, query planning, distributed execution, data formats, and storage systems.

• Assist in defining and constructing a scalable multi-tenant SaaS database architecture that includes tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background tasks, and reliable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to facilitate rapid data retrieval.

• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to balance experimental initiatives with sustainable reliability.

• Implement monitoring for database services through metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.

• Utilize observability tools to gain insights into system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage selections, API contracts, deployment strategies, and engineering methodologies.

• Take ownership of database solutions, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with user workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software applications.

• Self-motivated individual capable of addressing intricate engineering challenges and making design choices with minimal oversight.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and their frameworks.

• Experience with distributed systems, catalog and table formats, and query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Demonstrated history of delivering software into production that is actively used by customers.

• Exposure to cloud-native environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Proficient in using observability tools for understanding and troubleshooting system performance.

• Experience in constructing distributed query engines (bonus).

• Experience in building data warehouses and/or data lakes (bonus).

• Experience in developing tools for data engineering (bonus).

• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across teams.

• Capability to navigate ambiguity, assume ownership, and make practical architectural decisions.
