Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, create, test, and manage database components, including data ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, and various data and storage formats.

• Collaborate in defining and developing a scalable, multi-tenant SaaS database architecture that incorporates tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Develop APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, command-line interfaces (CLIs), and internal applications to enable rapid data retrieval.

• Work in partnership with product and infrastructure teams to find a balance between experimentation and long-term reliability.

• Integrate metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards into database services for enhanced observability.

• Utilize observability tools to analyze system behavior and enhance reliability.

• Influence architecture, service boundaries, storage decisions, API agreements, deployment strategies, and engineering methodologies.

• Assume responsibility for scalable and maintainable database solutions that align with user workflows.

• Communicate effectively and contribute across teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing production-grade, user-facing software systems.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience with distributed systems, including catalogs, table formats, and query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Demonstrated success in delivering software utilized by users in production environments.

• Exposure to cloud-native platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience leveraging observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system performance.

• Capability to address complex engineering challenges and make design choices with minimal oversight.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, define project scopes, and drive initiatives forward.

• Experience with building distributed query engines, data warehouses/data lakes, or data engineering tools is advantageous.
