Senior Backend Engineer – Databases, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, test, and manage database components, which include data ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, and storage formats.

• Assist in architecting and developing a scalable multi-tenant SaaS database service that features tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs, and dependable service boundaries.

• Create APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal applications to facilitate rapid data retrieval.

• Balance the need for rapid experimentation with long-term reliability as the project transitions from prototype to production.

• Integrate metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards into database services.

• Define architecture, service boundaries, storage options, API contracts, deployment patterns, and engineering methodologies.

• Assume ownership of scalable and maintainable database solutions that align with user workflows.

• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing production-quality, user-facing software systems.

• Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks.

• Experience in distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, as well as query engines.

• Proficiency in a programming language such as Golang, C++, or Rust.

• Demonstrated history of delivering software that is utilized in production environments.

• Exposure to cloud-native platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience with observability tools to analyze and troubleshoot system behavior.

• Capability to address complex engineering challenges and make design decisions with minimal oversight.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity, define project scope, take ownership, and collaborate effectively.

• Experience in building distributed query engines, data warehouses/data lakes, or data engineering tools is an advantage.
