Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Greece.

📋 Description

• Develop and expand backend services for a technology-driven home services marketplace.

• Take responsibility for the matching and bidding engine, which includes ranking, professional scoring, and Extra Bids.

• Create and manage integrations for payment, subscription, cashback, bonuses, promotional codes, VAT, Stripe, and Softone ERP.

• Assist in operating and enhancing a rapid, zero-downtime platform on Kubernetes.

• Engage in trust and safety initiatives, experimentation, Salesforce/CRM integrations, and AI systems utilizing FastAPI, LangGraph, and pgvector.

• Continuously deploy through GitLab CI, ArgoCD, and Argo Rollouts.

• Manage features from inception to completion, including design, construction, testing, and monitoring.

• Make informed technical decisions, take part in code reviews, refactor systems, collaborate on documentation, and work across various disciplines.

• Lead projects, establish technical direction, review code, and provide mentorship to engineers.

• Analyze production incidents, legacy systems, and customer-related issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building and scaling production backend services, with a strong foundation in Python / Django and REST API.

• Expertise in system design, including defining service and API boundaries and assessing architectural trade-offs.

• In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL at scale, covering data modeling, query optimization, indexing, and concurrency correctness.

• Experience with asynchronous / distributed systems, including background processing and queue systems like Celery.

• Proficient in production ownership, observability, live-incident debugging, and testing.

• Proven track record of leading projects from start to finish and mentoring engineers.

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience with a major cloud platform, with AWS preferred.

• Understanding of CI/CD processes.

• Strong command of the English language.

• Enthusiasm for joining a remote, multicultural team.

• Bonus: Familiarity with Terraform, FastAPI, LLM and agentic experience, LangChain, LangGraph, RAG, pgvector, payments/fintech or marketplace background, and experience in a startup or high-performance team environment.
