Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Assume comprehensive responsibility for backend features, from refining requirements alongside Product to delivering robust, production-ready solutions.

• Actively challenge and enhance product and technical decisions.

• Advance the core system, APIs, and data infrastructure.

• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability under high-demand workloads.

• Strike a balance between rapid product iterations and sustainable technical architecture.

• Contribute to the design of APIs and infrastructure catering to present and future AI-driven workloads.

• Adapt and evolve APIs to support AI/ML-driven use cases.

• Engage with a product that manages petabytes of biological data.

• Impact long-term technical decisions and product architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering with a strong emphasis on backend development.

• Profound understanding of computer science fundamentals (OOP, algorithms, data structures).

• Extensive experience with data storage solutions: RDBMS, columnar databases, search engines, and various NoSQL technologies.

• Demonstrated expertise in agentic engineering.

• Strong command of Java and/or Kotlin.

• Experience with system-level refactoring.

• Significant experience with Spring and its ecosystem.

• Capability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

• Quick learner in complex domains.

• Interest in life sciences, data science, and applications in ML/AI.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

• Proficient in English.

• Knowledge of biology and genetics is a plus.

• Experience with profiling, tracing, and performance tools is a plus.

• Familiarity with Python is a plus.
