Senior Architect – Compute Virtualization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Take charge of system design and implementation while steering engineering efforts and ensuring consistency with the overall architecture.

• Create proof of concepts to validate design decisions and suggest appropriate technologies.

• Collaborate with product managers and product architects to guide product strategy.

• Influence the engineering roadmap in partnership with product and engineering management, along with business stakeholders.

• Establish best practices, disseminate knowledge, and provide mentorship to team members.

• Engage with engineering teams within an Agile framework.

• Direct the architecture and design of cutting-edge infrastructure services for Akamai's public cloud computing platform.

• Operate as an integral member of the Compute system architecture team, embedded within engineering development teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years of pertinent experience.

• Bachelor's degree or a comparable qualification.

• Proven experience in building and managing highly available, fault-tolerant, and large-scale distributed production services.

• Familiarity with virtualization and cloud-native technologies, such as qemu, kvm, and Cilium.

• In-depth knowledge of operating systems, Linux internals, virtualization technologies, hypervisors, and performance optimization techniques.

• Proficient understanding of containers and associated technologies, including systemd, Docker, containerd, and Kubernetes.

• Extensive experience with Linux, Go, Python, and Bash programming languages.

• Awareness of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS concepts.

• Experience with one or more public cloud platforms.
