This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and develop voice AI systems that facilitate real-time, conversational user interactions.
• Create and maintain AI orchestration layers, which include managing agent workflows, state management, and system transitions.
• Architect and enhance workflows across speech-to-text, LLM reasoning, tool invocation, and text-to-speech processes.
• Make decisions regarding conversation design, prompt formulation, tool architecture, latency considerations, and turn-taking mechanics.
• Develop systems capable of managing ambiguity, interruptions, edge cases, and the complexities of real-world voice interactions.
• Produce clean, tested, production-ready Python code for APIs, services, and orchestration tasks.
• Construct data pipelines that capture, transform, and provide insights from patient and member interactions.
• Collaborate on technical strategy and contribute to the development and deployment of voice-based AI products at Blooming Health.
• Work in close partnership with the Director of AI Engineering along with product and engineering teams to deliver reliable AI features into production.
• Proven experience in building and deploying voice AI or real-time conversational AI systems in a production environment.
• Familiarity with speech-to-text, text-to-speech, telephony, or streaming audio pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of latency, interruptions, barge-in, turn-taking, transcription quality, and conversation dynamics.
• Experience in integrating real-time communication tools like Twilio, WebRTC, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or comparable services.
• Solid understanding of prompt engineering techniques, limitations, and production-related tradeoffs.
• Background in designing conversational AI systems, including workflow design, agent structuring, and uncertainty management.
• Ability to assess when to utilize agents, tools, retrieval methods, or deterministic logic.
• Proficient in Python, including async capabilities such as asyncio and httpx.
• Experience in building APIs and backend services.
• Strong commitment to clean coding practices, testing, and overall software quality in production.
• Solid SQL skills, preferably with PostgreSQL.
• Experience in constructing ETL pipelines and managing data workflows.
• Understanding of data modeling, schema design, and structuring data for AI applications and analytics.
• Experience with multi-agent systems, tool usage, and function invocation.
• Familiarity with RAG, embeddings, and retrieval systems.
• Knowledge of evaluation and testing methodologies for AI systems.
• Experience in enhancing the reliability and observability of production AI systems.
• Exposure to streaming data technologies, including Kafka or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
• Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation tools.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
• Background in healthcare, care management, patient engagement, or social determinants of health (SDOH).
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and healthcare data privacy considerations.
