Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Supervise accounting practices for US distribution, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards in areas such as inventory, sales, royalties, and revenue recognition.

• Manage intercompany transactions, tax reporting, compliance programs, and monthly closing activities in close collaboration with executive leadership.

• Assist in strategic operational improvements, audits, and updates to the financial framework as the primary accounting partner to executive financial leaders.

• Leverage an internal AI platform to oversee daily financial operations, data mapping, and reporting tasks.

• Ensure clear ledger separation and precise tracking of service costs across various business entities.

• Generate management accounts and financial reports for senior stakeholders.

• Offer financial insights that shape business decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Located in South Africa.

• Over 5 years of pertinent accounting experience.

• A professional accounting qualification or progress towards a recognized qualification is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.

• Proven experience in preparing management accounts and financial reports for senior stakeholders.

• Comfortable with foreign currency transactions and dealing with international suppliers or customers.

• Excellent spreadsheet skills, including data analysis, model development, and discrepancy identification.

• Familiarity with accounting software, ERP systems, payment platforms, and cloud-based business tools.

• Exceptional attention to detail, numerical accuracy, organization, and follow-through.

• Proficient in written and spoken business English.

• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while communicating effectively with a US-based leadership team.

• High standards of integrity, discretion, accountability, and ownership.

• Experience with a US-based company or support for US financial operations.

• Background in wholesale distribution, inventory accounting, CPG, e-commerce, or retail sectors.

• Knowledge in landed costs, import/export transactions, freight costs, or third-party logistics accounting.

• Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting.

• Proven track record of supporting audits, tax filings, and working with external financial advisors.

• Advanced skills in Excel or Google Sheets, including lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and automation of reporting.

• Demonstrated experience using AI tools or automation to enhance accounting workflows and reporting.
