This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop, coordinate, and oversee safety compliance initiatives, systems, and programs across the company for the routine maintenance and minor repair of DoD fuel facilities.
• Administer the Safety Management System (SMS) for the USACE RMMR program.
• Execute safety programs, policies, plans, procedures, and protocols in line with regulations, USACE EM 385-1-1, and industry-leading practices.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, local, USACE, and service-specific safety standards.
• Perform inspections, audits, safety assessments, and analyses of accident hazards.
• Monitor deficiencies and trends, implement corrective measures, and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Identify hazards, evaluate risks, and formulate mitigation strategies.
• Create and deliver safety training sessions, new-hire orientations, and training for high-risk activities.
• Encourage safety awareness initiatives and foster a proactive safety culture.
• Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses; determine root causes and suggest corrective actions.
• Prepare and submit incident reports to relevant regulatory agencies as required.
• Develop emergency response plans, coordinate preparedness initiatives, and conduct drills and exercises.
• Brief senior officials and provide summary status updates at least quarterly.
• Facilitate communication regarding safety issues among project teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Engage in safety meetings, committees, and industry organizations.
• Mentor junior staff if supervisory duties are applicable.
• Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or a comparable field.
• At least 5 years of experience in safety management.
• Familiarity with Safety Management Systems and their applications.
• Proven expertise in developing and executing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
• Experience in identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and conducting incident investigations.
• Understanding of safety training methodologies and the ability to create and present effective training programs.
• Mandatory familiarity with USACE EM 385-1-1 safety regulations, policies, and guidelines.
• Strong comprehension of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Capability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical literature, financial reports, contracts, and legal documents.
• Ability to address inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory bodies, or community members.
• Skill in presenting information effectively to senior management, public groups, and boards of directors.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment federal background check, MVR, and drug screening.
• Compliance with the company's drug and alcohol policy.
• Eligibility to work in the US or authorized by the start date.
• Proficiency in QuickBase, MS Office, MS Project, and/or relevant software.
• Knowledge and capability to work within the USACE RMS framework.
• Ability to fulfill physical demands, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and stairs; lifting up to 10 pounds; wearing personal protective equipment; and responding rapidly to hazards.
• Reliable transportation is necessary.
• Possession of a current, valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
• Ability to obtain security badges and basic security clearances for federal installations or secure facilities.
• CSP, OHST, CHST, or similar certification is preferred.
• Salary range of $75,000–$85,000 per year.
