Revenue Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee technical accounting, accrual modeling, and reconciliation for all Recorded Music revenue streams.

• Design and sustain ASC 606 recognition schedules, monthly flash revenue accruals, deferred revenue tracking, and automated reversals.

• Extract, clean, and analyze revenue operational reporting datasets from various digital service providers utilizing Analysis for Office and Gemini AI Tools.

• Reconcile reporting across multiple systems from source systems to the financial ledger.

• Connect consumption metadata with general ledger activities to identify anomalies, underreported royalties, missing catalog codes, and system discrepancies.

• Perform month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter variance analyses and present variance drivers to finance leaders within the label.

• Act as the RTR business lead for financial systems optimization encompassing SAP ECC/S/4HANA, BlackLine, and proprietary music revenue sub-ledgers.

• Create, test, and implement automated reporting to streamline manual journal entries and expedite the monthly close cycle.

• Manage monthly and quarterly close deliverables, reviewing high-volume journal entries, complex accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Evaluate work prepared by staff accountants and offshore shared service partners, offering guidance and establishing standard operating procedures.

• Investigate and resolve ongoing balances in revenue clearing, suspense, and partner withholding accounts.

• Maintain and enhance SOX 404 internal control matrices, segregation of duties, validation checks, and data lineage documentation.

• Serve as the primary revenue audit liaison for both internal and external auditors, providing audit schedules, roll-forwards, sample testing support, and technical accounting memos.

• Collaborate with Label Finance, Commercial Revenue Operations, Business & Legal Affairs, IT/Data Engineering, and Corporate Royalty teams.

• Deliver training and education to members of the Recorded Music RTR team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related analytical field is required.

• An active CPA license (or international equivalent) is strongly preferred.

• A Master’s Degree (MAcc, MBA) or coursework in Financial Data Analytics / Information Systems is a significant advantage.

• 10 to 15+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience in Corporate Accounting, Shared Services, or Big 4 Public Accounting.

• 7+ years of specialization in high-volume revenue accounting, billing assurance, or royalty accounting in music, digital entertainment, streaming media, or intellectual property/licensing sectors.

• Experience in leading technical ASC 606 revenue recognition implementations or overseeing complex multi-element arrangements.

• Background in directing and reviewing work carried out by distributed, hybrid, or offshore delivery centers.

• Extensive experience with SAP FI/CO, S/4HANA, and automated balance sheet reconciliation tools like BlackLine or Cadency.

• Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including SAP Analysis for Office, Power Query, dynamic arrays, VBA/macros, and advanced nested logic.

• Familiarity with eCommerce and digital billing platforms such as Shopify and DSP vendor reporting portals is highly desirable.

• Capability to analyze complex data anomalies and distill findings into clear executive summaries.

• Ability to assess manual workflows and design scalable, automated solutions.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

• Capacity to handle high-pressure close deadlines and manage competing stakeholder requests.

• Must be able to collaborate with label executives, data engineers, and external auditors.
