This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Lead and oversee multiple railroad operations within the designated region.
• Ensure safe and effective train operations, maintenance processes, and infrastructure management.
• Enhance performance metrics utilizing safety, service, productivity, and financial KPIs.
• Create and implement regional business plans that align with the company’s overall strategy.
• Analyze operational trends and apply corrective measures as needed.
• Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to FRA, DOT, OSHA, environmental regulations, operating rules, and company standards.
• Perform safety reviews, operational audits, field inspections, and investigate incidents.
• Manage the regional operating budget and capital expenditure strategies.
• Propel profitability, operational efficiency, productivity, and initiatives focused on cost management.
• Aid in commercial expansion, strategic planning, forecasting, and business evaluations.
• Mentor and coach General Managers and operational leaders.
• Strengthen leadership capabilities and develop succession plans.
• Collaborate with Human Resources on workforce planning, employee relations, and talent development initiatives.
• Foster relationships with customers, communities, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
• Represent the company in dealings with local, state, and federal organizations.
• Conduct ride-alongs, site inspections, safety observations, and leadership coaching across the region.
• Maintain a robust field presence across railroad properties, terminals, shops, customer sites, and field operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Engineering, Logistics, or a related area; equivalent railroad leadership experience will also be considered.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in railroad operations.
• A minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience managing multiple locations, departments, or business units.
• In-depth knowledge of FRA regulations, railroad operating practices, and transportation operations.
• Demonstrated capability to lead large teams and implement operational enhancements.
• Strong financial understanding and experience in budget management.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship management abilities.
• Willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned region.
• Executive leadership experience in short line, regional, Class I railroads, or transportation organizations.
• Experience managing both union and non-union workforces.
• Familiarity with railroad engineering, mechanical, and commercial operations.
• Experience in continuous improvement or Lean management methodologies.
• Capability to safely navigate rail yards, locomotive facilities, industrial environments, and outdoor settings.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrains, climb rail equipment and stairways, and conduct site inspections in various weather conditions.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and be qualified to operate a company or rental vehicle.
• Travel approximately 50% to 75% of the time.
