Regional Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary liaison for MVP with local groups, intermediaries, selected national partners, and select donors throughout key Western states.

• Report directly to the Director of State Programs while collaborating closely with State Advisors and Capacity Building teams.

• Continue to develop and execute MVP's strategy for the Western region, focusing particularly on Nevada and other necessary states.

• Analyze the political landscape, progressive infrastructure, challenges, and opportunities within the region.

• Identify regional strategies that support ecosystem development, policy advancements, and electoral needs.

• Cultivate relationships with local, state, and national partners to further policy goals, ecosystem-building efforts, and electoral objectives.

• Ensure that power-building investments align with MVP's mission and its commitments to anti-oppression, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice.

• Maintain trustworthy and strategic relationships with partners and allies.

• Assist groups with electoral strategies, issue advocacy, base-building, staffing, capacity, planning, and budgeting.

• Identify gaps in infrastructure and political opportunities.

• Draft internal strategic documents and external plans for C3, C4, and PAC initiatives in the state.

• Provide short- and long-term investment recommendations.

• Oversee state grantmaking budgets and monitor partner budget gaps.

• Foster new and emerging groups focused on movement voter organizing, alliances, and campaigns.

• Administer and track grants in collaboration with MVP's grantmaking team.

• Maintain systems for grantmaking recommendations and tracking, utilizing Airtable or other record-keeping systems.

• Support organizational development and the implementation of best practices.

• Engage with local funders, organizing networks, intermediaries, influencers, and donor tables.

• Lead MVP's engagement efforts with state C3, C4, donor tables, and local alliances.

• Prepare legally compliant program reports and evaluate progress against established goals.

• Provide strategic insights and feedback to leadership within State Programs and the organization as a whole.

• Share best practices with partners and State Advisors.

• Document and disseminate stories and photographs from local organizations, campaigns, and individuals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Comprehensive knowledge of political and movement ecosystems within the state, acquired through political campaign or movement organizing experience.

• Experience collaborating across diverse movements, coalitions, and constituencies.

• A strong passion for supporting a varied ecosystem of grassroots organizations.

• Capability to evaluate state funding landscapes and the capacity of grassroots groups to expand and develop.

• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing.

• Organizational and campaign leadership experience, ideally at a senior level.

• Preferably possess an in-depth understanding of the funding landscape in Western states, particularly Nevada.

• Some experience with or a strong desire to learn about fundraising and grantmaking.

• Proven success in supporting and mentoring a diverse range of leaders and organizers.

• Experience in leadership roles within state-based organizations.

• Familiarity with tools such as Slack, Airtable, VAN, and Google Suite is preferred.

• Some experience with or a strong desire to learn about compliance issues relevant to 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC operations.
