Quantum Computing, Cryptography Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary support for VA's initiatives on cryptographic modernization and readiness for post-quantum challenges.

• Evaluate the organization's current cryptographic assets.

• Provide guidance on strategies for transitioning to quantum-resistant algorithms.

• Offer policy and technical advice for the adoption of cryptographic standards throughout the organization.

• Assist in the enterprise security architecture, engineering, and operations within VA's Office of Information Security.

• Occasionally collaborate with the VA Central Office located in Washington, D.C.

• Travel may be necessary for specific program-related tasks as required.


⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Public Trust — High Risk (Tier 4) background investigation is required.

• Over 10 years of experience in IT.

• At least 5 years of experience focusing on quantum computing and cryptography within a large corporation or federal agency of similar scale.

• In-depth knowledge of quantum mechanics, quantum algorithms, and quantum information theory.

• Familiarity with quantum programming languages and frameworks, including Qiskit or Cirq.

• Strong expertise in cryptographic protocols, public-key infrastructure (PKI), and post-quantum cryptography.

• Understanding of NIST PQC standards FIPS 203, 204, and 205.

• Experience in evaluating organizational cryptographic inventories, determining migration priorities, and effectively communicating quantum risks to non-technical leadership.

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, Information Security, Information Resource Management, or a related discipline.

• Current certification that meets DoD 8570/8140 workforce requirements at IAT Level III, IAM Level III, or IASAE Level III.

• Relevant cryptography or PKI certification is preferred.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
