This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Take ownership of the technical vision and architecture for the complete rendering pipeline.
• Make decisions balancing visual quality, performance, and platform limitations.
• Establish the technical standards for global illumination, ray tracing, physically based shading, post-processing, and VFX integration.
• Assess academic and industry research to translate pertinent findings into production-ready features.
• Define material workflows, lighting standards, and asset pipelines in collaboration with Art and Technical Art leadership.
• Design and architect rendering pipelines for real-time interactive experiences across various target platforms.
• Create, implement, and optimize lighting, geometry, materials, shaders, and post-processing systems.
• Represent the studio’s rendering technology perspective both internally and externally.
• Evaluate new APIs, hardware capabilities, and platform-specific rendering features.
• Conduct research, prototype, and implement advanced rendering techniques.
• Contribute to engine-level tooling and editor workflows.
• Develop or enhance rendering tools that aid artists and designers in faster iteration.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and creative leads to define feature scopes and align priorities.
• Communicate technical tradeoffs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
• Over 7 years of professional experience in real-time rendering engineering within the gaming, interactive entertainment, or a similar field.
• A strong portfolio showcasing shipped titles or interactive experiences.
• Experience managing rendering architecture from start to finish and making fundamental technical decisions.
• Extensive knowledge of graphics APIs such as Vulkan, DirectX 12, Metal, or OpenGL.
• Proficient in at least one major real-time engine, such as Unreal Engine 5, with engine/renderer-level experience.
• Mastery of C++ and shader languages, including HLSL, GLSL, or WGSL.
• Proven ability in writing and reviewing high-performance, maintainable, production-quality rendering code at scale.
• Familiarity with physically based rendering, deferred rendering, temporal anti-aliasing, screen-space effects, and/or ray tracing.
• Capability to design advanced rendering systems from the ground up.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Must possess legal authorization to work in the U.S.
