This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a technical quality resource during discussions with customers and suppliers regarding aerospace and defense manufacturing programs.
• Analyze customer drawings, specifications, quality clauses, and flow-down requirements, translating them into manufacturing and inspection needs.
• Offer expertise in AS9100, ITAR, GD&T, First Article Inspection, material certifications, inspection methods, and supplier quality controls.
• Review intricate manufacturing projects that involve tight tolerances, GD&T-critical features, coatings, plating, welding, heat treatment, and other specialized processes.
• Establish and evaluate inspection and measurement requirements for critical dimensions, functional features, and tolerance-sensitive characteristics.
• Assess inspection reports and sampling plans, ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
• Verify Material Test Reports and relevant certifications for coatings, plating, welding, and heat treatment.
• Assist in both remote and on-site supplier audits, including the evaluation of quality systems, process controls, documentation, and workforce competence.
• Evaluate supplier readiness for Aerospace and Defense programs, including adherence to AS9100 and ITAR requirements.
• Review supplier corrective actions, including 8D and CAPA reports, and assess root-cause analysis using 5-Why and Ishikawa/Fishbone techniques.
• Support configuration control by identifying manufacturing, material, tooling, or process changes that require customer approval.
• Facilitate AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements for new parts and manufacturing/process modifications.
• Engage in customer meetings, supplier quality activities, audits, and complex manufacturing projects as necessary.
• Over 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in aerospace, aviation, defense, or a closely related regulated manufacturing sector.
• Practical experience working within an AS9100 Quality Management System.
• Familiarity with ITAR regulations and handling export-controlled technical data.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional inspection methodologies.
• Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements.
• Background in reviewing manufacturing drawings, specifications, inspection reports, and quality documents.
• In-depth knowledge of structured corrective-action processes, including 8D, CAPA, 5-Why, and Fishbone/Ishikawa analysis.
• Experience collaborating directly with manufacturing suppliers.
• Excellent verbal communication skills for engaging in technical discussions with clients.
• Capacity to work independently and offer sound technical quality advice.
• Current residence in the United States is required.
• Must fulfill applicable U.S. person/citizenship requirements related to the program.
• ASQ certification such as CQE or CQA is preferred.
• Experience in conducting supplier quality audits is preferred.
• Preferred background in Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE).
• Experience with contract manufacturers or multi-supplier manufacturing environments is preferred.
• Background supporting mission-critical or safety-critical aerospace/defense components is preferred.
• Experience with heat treatment, welding, coatings, plating, and precision machining is preferred.
