Quality Centre of Excellence Lead

📋 Description

• Establish and spearhead a Quality Center of Excellence aimed at transforming automated testing and quality practices for around 700 engineers.

• Supervise a dedicated team of test automation specialists who collaborate with product engineering teams to identify quality deficiencies, impart sustainable testing methodologies, and develop enduring capabilities.

• Define and uphold a quality maturity model/scorecard that measures test pyramid health, automation coverage, test reliability/flakiness, and DORA alignment.

• Conduct portfolio assessments to pinpoint systemic quality risks, gaps, anti-patterns, and technical debt.

• Aggregate quality signals, convert technical insights into business-risk terminology, and present quality maturity trends to engineering leadership.

• Prioritize QCoE involvement based on its strategic impact and associated risks.

• Mentor engineering teams on unit, acceptance/contract, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) testing architecture.

• Develop and instruct reusable test automation patterns, frameworks, golden-path templates, and contract/API testing methodologies.

• Assist teams in minimizing brittle E2E test suites by enhancing acceptance and contract-testing layers.

• Guide teams on resolving flaky tests, improving test maintainability, and developing scalable test infrastructure.

• Connect test pyramid health and automation practices with DORA outcomes.

• Facilitate bootcamps, office hours, embedded pairing sessions, and internal certification/maturity programs.

• Evaluate, pilot, and oversee the adoption of AI-powered and agentic testing tools.

• Set up guardrails and communicate AI testing opportunities and risks to leadership.

• Recruit, manage, and mentor senior test automation engineers.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations stakeholders to synchronize remediation roadmaps.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Practical experience in testing and software quality assurance within fast-paced, iterative environments, including multi-tenant SaaS products.

• Proficient in testing SaaS/multi-tenant products with on-demand continuous deployment.

• Familiar with canary releases, feature flags, staged rollouts, simultaneous product versions, and continuous-deployment testing strategies.

• Extensive knowledge of test pyramid strategy encompassing unit, acceptance/contract, and integration testing, with a proven track record of minimizing E2E over-reliance.

• Demonstrated experience in coaching or advising engineering teams, leveraging influence without authority.

• Expert background in test automation and quality engineering initiatives.

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as C#, Java, TypeScript, or Python.

• Experience with CI/CD principles, tools, infrastructure, version control, and source control management tools like GitHub or Azure DevOps.

• Hands-on familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GitHub; Docker; Kubernetes; and multi-tiered infrastructures.

• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and familiarity with Agile metrics, or a willingness to deeply understand DORA metrics.

• Experience in evaluating, piloting, or implementing AI-powered testing tools or agentic solutions.

• Proficient in constructing or presenting quality maturity scorecards/dashboards and communicating technical risks to VP+ or leadership audiences.

• Foundational knowledge of AI concepts and prompt engineering.

• Desirable: Experience with REST APIs, databases, SQL, test automation frameworks, financial software, SaaS, or similar complex product domains.

• Base salary range of £97,000.00 to £122,000.00 annually.

• Additional bonus eligibility may apply for non-sales positions.
