Python Backend Engineer, Comms Core

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and achieve quarterly objectives for the team.

• Guide engineers through uncertainties to address open-ended challenges.

• Provide support to team members during the delivery process.

• Work collaboratively with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development cycle.

• Engage in ideation and clearly communicate technical limitations.

• Collaborate on decisions while evaluating risks and trade-offs.

• Identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, and business challenges.

• Establish or enhance code review and design standards.

• Promote engineering standards through documentation and technical presentations.

• Foster talent development through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Participate in the necessary on-call rotation.

• Create and maintain transactional communication services that deliver email, SMS, and push notifications for Affirm customers.

• Contribute to platform modernization, ensuring high availability and supporting internationalization efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using Python.

• Proven history of developing highly available distributed systems utilizing AWS, MySQL/Dynamo, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in crafting technical plans for major features or system components with elegant, straightforward, and extensible designs.

• Ability to produce high-quality, comprehensible code.

• Proficiency in implementing significant changes within large codebases.

• Experience in developing tools and methodologies that facilitate safe modifications.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

• Participation in on-call rotation is mandatory.
