Public Safety – Sworn Compensation & Classification Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead or co-lead the sworn/public-safety components of classification and compensation analyses.

• Choose peer organizations for public-safety markets and develop market surveys.

• Evaluate rank structures, pay steps, specialty/incentive compensation, and overtime trends.

• Examine compression issues between sworn schedules and civilian compensation plans.

• Prepare findings and recommendations for the sworn section to be included in reports and council presentations.

• Assist in creating technical content for proposals related to mid-band municipal studies with diverse structural scopes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in public-safety compensation, classification, or municipal human resources, specifically regarding police and/or fire compensation plans.

• Proven experience on at least one completed study or significant redesign of pay plans for sworn personnel.

• Excellent analytical and writing abilities; capable of clearly conveying findings to non-HR stakeholders.

• Ability to reference specific past government projects (including agency, role, and year).

• Experience in both police and fire sectors (preferred).

• Familiarity with Paramedic/EMS scheduling (preferred).

• Understanding of collective bargaining for analytical purposes only, not for labor negotiations (preferred).

• Experience working with southeastern municipalities (preferred).
