Protocol and Special Events Intern – AI and Digital Solutions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Evaluate current laboratory tour and protocol resources.

• Create, design, and implement a SharePoint site, AI assistant, and associated processes for internal use.

• Generate automated datasets and Power BI dashboards to showcase upcoming tours and visits.

• Develop a secure AI assistant to facilitate protocol-related tasks.

• Produce a procedural notebook for the ongoing administrative management of the site, dashboard, and AI assistant.

• Provide training to department staff on the usage and upkeep of the newly implemented tools.

• Assist with testing, documentation, collection of user feedback, and activities aimed at continuous improvement.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Eligibility to access the Laboratory in accordance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is required.

• Must be a college or university student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited institution.

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in fields such as computer science, engineering, data science, information systems, business analytics, or a related discipline.

• Experience in developing AI-enabled applications or utilizing large language model APIs.

• Proficient in programming or software development.

• Demonstrated expertise in SharePoint site design, Power Automate, Power BI dashboard development, or Microsoft Graph.

• Experience in documenting technical processes and training nontechnical users.

• Background in event operations, protocol, communications, or business-process improvement within a national laboratory context.

• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and effectively communicate with a multidisciplinary team.

• Strong skills in analysis, organization, written communication, and verbal interaction.

• Work must be performed by a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual).

• External candidates selected for this role must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

• Assignments exceeding 179 days necessitate a Personal Identity Verification process and background investigation.
