This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +35 more states.
β’ Oversee and evaluate federal and state laws, regulations, proposed legislation, regulatory guidance, and reporting requirements related to chemicals, substances of concern, PFAS, refrigerants, plastics, batteries, recycling, and extended producer responsibility programs.
β’ Analyze the applicability of regulations, timelines, compliance risks, and business impacts across Mazda Corporation Japan and Mazda North American Operations, including operations, products, and supply chain activities.
β’ Convert complex regulatory requirements into understandable and actionable guidance for business stakeholders.
β’ Inform relevant MNAO and MC departments about regulatory developments, risks, and compliance obligations.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to aid implementation activities and address compliance-related challenges.
β’ Organize the preparation, review, and timely submission of regulatory reports, registrations, notifications, and supporting documentation.
β’ Act as the main contact with federal and state regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
β’ Create and maintain compliance processes, reporting calendars, internal controls, and record-retention practices.
β’ Assist with audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
β’ Coordinate regulatory requirements and data collection across departments, manufacturing operations, legal, engineering, purchasing, accessories, and U.S.-based suppliers.
β’ Contribute to battery lifecycle, recycling, circularity, supply-chain, resource circulation, and sustainability initiatives.
β’ Engage in industry association working groups and support industry comments, position statements, and regulatory responses.
β’ Adhere to all policies and standards and perform additional duties as assigned.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in chemicals, environmental, product stewardship, regulatory compliance, battery lifecycle, recycling, or a related technical field is required.
β’ At least 5 years of experience working with government agencies, trade associations, legislative or regulatory processes, automotive/manufacturing supply chains, cross-functional projects, regulatory reporting, or compliance implementation is preferred.
β’ 5+ years of proficiency in Microsoft 365 for data analysis, presentations, and document management is required.
β’ Familiarity with U.S. federal and state frameworks concerning chemicals, environmental issues, battery recycling, and producer responsibility is preferred.
β’ Skills in regulatory analysis, technical writing, and compliance documentation are required.
β’ Competence in project planning, prioritization, and issue-tracking is required.
β’ Ability to collaborate and coordinate across functions, regions, suppliers, agencies, and industry groups is essential.
β’ A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
β’ An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
β’ Must be able to meet essential travel requirements: 10% domestic flying, 5% domestic driving, and 5% international flying.
