This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Design and implement tools and workflows for analyzing clinical genomic data while automating bioinformatics processes.
• Create web applications to visualize and interact with genomic data, utilizing IGV-based or browser-native genomic viewers.
• Enhance observability, monitoring, alerting, and reliability for lab-facing and bioinformatics production systems.
• Recognize and pursue opportunities for software automation and address scalability challenges.
• Deliver product features and enhancements with minimal supervision.
• Resolve complex issues across interconnected systems.
• Employ analysis and visualization tools to test hypotheses and convey findings.
• Write well-tested, well-documented, and maintainable code.
• Implement bioinformatics algorithms, statistical methods, and engineering practices.
• Collaborate with molecular biologists and laboratory stakeholders on assay development, workflows, and genomics applications.
• Assess the quality of genomic and operational data, supporting quality improvement initiatives.
• Comprehend regulatory requirements related to verification, validation, and documentation.
• Generate technical documentation for compliance-related and operational tasks.
• Balance feature development, operational support, incident response, and continuous improvement within a production setting.
• Engage with internal users, stakeholders, and development teams.
• Master's degree with 3 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering, OR a Ph.D., OR a Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience with short-read and long-read sequencing platforms such as Illumina or PacBio.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience with bioinformatics algorithms and their application to genomic data analysis.
• At least 2 years of experience with scalable bioinformatics infrastructure, including workflow orchestration tools like Docker, Nextflow, or GitHub Actions.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience with regulatory requirements such as CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA for clinical genomics applications.
• At least 1 year of experience with full-stack web development technologies, including Django, Flask, or React.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience with modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
• At least 3 years of experience with command-line tools and shell scripting in a UNIX/Linux environment.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience with SQL and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or MongoDB.
• At least 1 year of experience with software development practices, including version control, testing, code reviews, and documentation.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience with software production deployment practices and tools like Docker, CI/CD, and GitHub Actions.
• At least 1 year of experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience with interactive data visualization libraries like Plotly.
• At least 1 year of experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Datadog, or PagerDuty.
