Product Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Offer practical legal guidance and counsel on product-related matters both domestically and internationally.

• Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Strategy teams throughout the entire product lifecycle.

• Identify legal issues, propose practical solutions, and support cross-functional go-to-market strategies.

• Provide advice on AI policies, liability, licensing, responsible AI development and deployment, as well as risk assessments.

• Develop and improve procedures for ensuring product compliance with global laws and regulations, including privacy, data security, export control, and trade compliance.

• Negotiate both inbound and outbound licensing agreements.

• Take part in the company’s open-source review process.

• Advise on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and data handling and minimization throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Review product collateral and marketing materials.

• Act as a product subject matter expert for the Contracts and Legal teams and aid in contract negotiations.

• Support the incident response program and address security events.

• Contribute to IP strategy and product roadmap, which includes managing the patent and trademark portfolio and enforcing IP rights alongside product teams and external counsel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.

• Active and in good standing with at least one state bar.

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house.

• Significant exposure to the software, SaaS, or related technology sectors.

• Knowledge of emerging AI legal considerations, governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act), and applicable regulations.

• Ability to convert AI legal requirements into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams.

• Working knowledge of global privacy laws and their implications for software product development.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Proven capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a close-knit legal team.

• Ability to work cross-functionally to foster consensus and achieve strategic objectives.

• Skill in enforcing legal requirements while maintaining positive client relationships.
