Product and Regulatory Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary legal advisor for product, engineering, and technology teams.

• Offer proactive legal counsel on software development, cloud technology, AI, GenAI/LLMs, and machine learning.

• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams from concept through to launch.

• Ensure adherence to privacy-by-design and AI-safety-by-design principles.

• Lead the development and updates of policies regarding acceptable AI usage, AI governance, data privacy, open-source licensing, and intellectual property.

• Track and analyze global technology laws and regulations, including the EU AI Act, algorithmic bias legislation, GDPR, CCPA, and cybersecurity requirements.

• Identify legal and ethical challenges in technology initiatives and create strategies to mitigate risks.

• Draft, assess, and negotiate SaaS, PaaS, strategic partnership, and intricate technology vendor agreements.

• Evaluate agreements with AI model providers and platforms.

• Provide counsel on protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights, including AI-generated content and open-source software.

• Collaborate with IT, Security, Privacy, and Compliance teams to establish privacy and security standards.

• Advise senior leadership teams across IT, Security, Product Development, Engineering, Sales, and Business Development.

• Design and conduct training sessions on responsible AI, technology contracts, IP protection, and data privacy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a recognized law school.

• Active participation in good standing with at least one state bar.

• Over 10 years of pertinent legal experience, with a strong preference for in-house technology experience.

• Extensive focus on product counseling, regulatory compliance, and technology transactions.

• Experience in advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data privacy issues.

• Knowledge of how LLMs operate, the data utilized for training, and the legal complexities of generative AI.

• Strong understanding of GDPR and CCPA regulations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of emerging regulations concerning AI and digital services.

• Ability to convert complex legal and regulatory risks into actionable business advice.

• Capacity to work independently, lead cross-functional projects, and influence executive decisions.

• Previous experience in creating or scaling an AI Governance framework or AI review committee.

• Relevant certifications such as CIPP/US or CIPP/E are advantageous.

• A background or undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
