Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical design and implementation of scalable, maintainable application components within the TM1 Maps platform.

• Define the architecture of the Maps application to ensure reliability, simplicity, observability, and long-term sustainability.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX designers, and engineering teams to convert product objectives into technical strategies.

• Develop and enhance micro-frontends and backend services utilizing React, TypeScript, Java, and Spring Boot.

• Create and manage services on AWS and Kubernetes.

• Design and support shared services, APIs, and integrations for both internal and external teams.

• Advocate for automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, performance optimization, and recovery automation.

• Guide engineers through technical mentorship, design feedback, and practical coaching.

• Foster cross-team alignment and address technical challenges.

• Diagnose production issues and enhance the reliability and performance of real-time, end-to-end systems.

• Engage in the team's on-call support rotation.

• Manage the entire lifecycle of services, encompassing architecture, delivery, testing, reliability, and production support.

• Operate as an individual contributor within a DevOps and Agile team tasked with end-to-end delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in building and maintaining production software systems.

• Proficient in Java development, particularly with Spring Boot.

• Strong frontend development skills with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

• Familiarity with NodeJS and Express.

• Experience in designing shared services, APIs, and distributed applications.

• Knowledge of microservices or event-driven architecture.

• Ability to apply software design patterns, SOLID principles, and maintainable engineering practices.

• Experience in modernizing, improving, and supporting legacy systems.

• Competence in production reliability, monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, and performance enhancement.

• Familiarity with CI/CD and delivery tools such as Maven, GitLab CI, or similar frameworks.

• Working knowledge of database technologies like DynamoDB, Oracle, MySQL, or MongoDB.

• Experience in Agile and DevOps-oriented teams with accountability for delivery and production support.

• Capability to influence technical direction across teams without direct management authority.

• Preferred: familiarity with Elasticsearch.

• Preferred: understanding of Kafka.

• Preferred: experience in building or operating services on AWS.

• Preferred: experience in deploying or supporting applications on Kubernetes.

• Preferred: experience assisting teams in integrating with shared platforms or services.

• Independent, proactive, and comfortable leading technical initiatives with minimal oversight.

• Effective communication skills with engineers, product partners, UX designers, and remote colleagues.
